International Women's Day 2008
Since 1977 Canada has officially celebrated International Women's Day each year on the eighth of March. We celebrate international Women's Day to recognize the progress women have made in regards to equality, rights, and full participation in society. We also use the day to reflect on the challenges and barriers that women still face including violence against women, sexual assault, economic inequality, and much more.
Canada's theme for International Women's Day 2008 is Strong Women, Strong World. The theme conveys a message that by empowering women, we create a better environment for everyone: women, men and children.
Strong Women, Strong World also emphasizes the important role that women play in our world as leaders, policy-makers, caregivers, educators, and international peacemakers.
CJSW is proud to celebrate International Women's Day on Saturday March 8. Make sure you celebrate too by giving props to the ladies in your life on this very special day.
